Located about 20 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs is a planned community in Broward County that was chartered in 1963. Developed by Coral Ridge Properties, the city has stringent construction, landscaping, and signage codes that contribute to its upscale atmosphere. Properties in Coral Springs typically retain higher values than similar ones in other parts of Broward County. In 2007, the population stood at just a little over 125,000. The city has historically benefited from good municipal government, which bolsters the value of city bonds, and a low crime rate.
In addition to its stellar real estate offerings and excellent year-round climate, Coral Springs boasts many amenities that make it a good place to call home. The Coral Springs Museum of Art collects, displays, and interprets art by Florida artists. The Coral Springs Center for the Arts offers visitors a wide range of entertainments, from stage plays to musicals to cabaret and Las Vegas-style acts. The city has many fine parks, excellent schools, and baseball, basketball, lacrosse, and football leagues. The city offers many programs for children and seniors, including swimming, gymnastics, and tennis. Three colleges, Barry University, Nova Southeastern University, and Broward Community College, have campuses in Coral Springs.
In 2006, Money Magazine ranked Coral Springs the 27th best city in the United States to live in. In 2007, Morgan Quitno named it the 10th safest city in the U.S., and America’s Promise listed it as one of the 100 best communities in the country for kids. The city received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which is presented by the President of the United States, in 2007 as well. |
